Our story

Hi, I'm Mel.

I've been a photographer since 2004, long before Paw Shots had a name. Photography has always been a way for me to tell stories, capture personalities, and hold onto moments that otherwise go by too quickly.

After moving to Austin, Texas in 2022, I started thinking about what I wanted to create here - a fresh start, something creative, and something that felt connected to the things I genuinely love.

And then there's Nasa, my cat. She has been part of the journey from the very beginning, I adopted her just after COVID happened and she was my unique my model, but now she's my studio supervisor, and, actually, the actual CEO of Paw Shots ATX. 

Having a pet of my own reminded me of something I already knew but felt even more strongly in Austin: our pets are family.

We take hundreds of photos of them. We celebrate their birthdays. We introduce them to our friends. We talk about them like they're people-because, in so many ways, they are.

So in 2024, I decided to combine my love for photography with my love for pets and created Paw Shots ATX.

I started as a small idea has grown into pet photography sessions, pop-ups, events, collaborations, and lots of new four-legged friends all around Austin.

And that's what is really about. Not just taking a pretty picture.

It's about creating experiences and capture their personality that makes you laugh every day. The face you know better than anyone. The goofy expressions, the serious poses, the zoomies, the side-eye, the cuddles and all the little things you'll want to remember forever.

Nasa may be the CEO, but I'm the one behind the camera, making sure every pet gets their moment in the spotlight... and the treats!

Because every pet has a story.
